The Roman Colosseum – a site my daughter wanted to see and I had almost no interest in. I reluctantly included the site in our tour. Boy was I wrong! It would have been a mistake to take a picture outside and move on. While we did not take a tour, we did buy the tickets ahead of time, a smart move, especially in July. Well now I could give you a whole bunch of words here but in this case the pictures speak volumes….
What may not translate in these pictures is the feeling of awe as you walk on and touch stones that are thousands of years old! The stadium of all stadiums, it felt like the American stadium’s great, great, great grandparent. Here are some more pictures….
We were very glad we went to this magnificent attraction! Two hours was plenty of time to see all we wanted to see. It was a little rainy this day so our pictures are not as light as I would like them to be.
One more really cool picture of a cross in one of the stones:
Somehow the history of the past lingers in the air and stones of this very old structure. In a day which included the Vatican, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, shopping, Circus Maximus and more, the Colosseum was our favorite stop. I KNOW RIGHT? Who would of thought WE would have liked this ancient collection of rocks.
Note: Kids will enjoy this site as well. There is an elevator for the handicapped and a gift shop.
