Jenn kept talking about this pasta place rated #6 out of 1220 on Tripadvisor. One day we set out to the Castello neighborhood of Venice in search of this pasta nirvana.
As we daily searched for the illusive #1 gelato place and never found it, (we found #2 by accident – pathetic but delicious) our confidence in locating destinations in Venice had been shaken. Jenn was at the directional helm, a job she did not like, especially since the directions resembled a treasure map – leaving out street names and giving us approximates (like my grandmothers recipes). We were about to give up when we spotted a whole bunch of people standing at the end of an alley. We pushed on with determination… feet hurting like we were on mile 21 of a marathon (ok that was just me Jenn was fine)… we dug deep…we sensed we were close… must have pasta….as we were about to round another turn, out of the corner of my eye, could this be it?..this grain filled oasis? We found it! I felt like planting a flag on it! Success!
The pleasant demeanor of the staff helped us navigate this very small place. The store is extremely small, no tables, a small counter, I would guess maybe 4-6 people can stand comfortably. The trick here is to decide on your pasta and then on the sauce, grab your drinks, get your food and EXIT.
I chose the pasta with seafood sauce…
Jenn ordered a meat sauce with mozzarella.
Not only was the food good, it was the cheapest meal we ate in Venice. There was no coperto (cover charge for table and other things).
The catch? We had to find a place to sit to eat it (ok if there were tables outside I may have paid that coperto). We ate on the ledge outside the store window. It was a little difficult to balance food and drink (again that was me, Jenn was having NO problem)… but that was part of the fun (for Jenn – ok it wasn’t that bad). Was it worth it? Absolutely – an adventure and a great meal! Great idea Jenn!
